5 years ago I went in for my 20 week ultrasound on our first child. After 3 years of trying to get pregnant and finally getting blessed with a miracle I found out our baby had something called a 2 vessel umbilical cord. That day my doctor was out of the office and I only got to see the US tech. She informed me that chances are my doctor would want to schedule an appointment with a Maternal Fetal Specialist due to the fact that their could be some abnormalities due to this "diagnosis". She said everything looked w/in the normal range but that they were having trouble finding one of the kidneys.
I WAS DEVASTATED! I felt like after all this waiting I was finally pregnant and now had something wrong. How could this be! Of course I got home and started googling "2 vessel cord" Boy was that a wrong Idea. Short of saying my baby would maybe come with 2 heads and 6 arms I was scared out of my whits! Fast forward a few months later and I gave birth to an overall healthy little boy. He did have a few things wrong but none of the things that I expected. He was born with a congenital heart defect and was missing the kidney. The congenital heart defect was a small(tiny)VSD (ventricular septal defect) which may/may not close one day but doesn't pose a health risk and if you saw my son you would never guess he came with a little hiccup.
The reason I wrote this 5 years later is because I remember feeling such frustration and stress during the rest of my pregnancy due to the lack of information or dramatic information that was available. Since this happens in 1 out of 100 births it is something that is somewhat common. Please know that if you have been diagnosed with a 2 vessel cord pregnancy please take time to breath, don't stress out and most important don't go crazy reading everything available online. Even if any problems do arise from the baby having a 2VC it will be your baby and you will love it so much!
The one thing I read was that due to the fact that you are working with less nutrients flowing to the baby I tried getting the best Prenatal vitamins I could with the least fillers I took Vital Nutrients Prenatal multi nutrients which came highly recommended by a cousin of ours that's a doctor. Either way I was born with an 8#11oz baby 2 weeks before my due date(which if you read info you know that these babies are usually underweight due to the lack of nutrients)so I highly recommend these vitamins :)
Have faith, relax and realize all will work out no matter how stressful the situation is and most important don't go crazy reading the what if's had I stressed out and imagined the worst possible scenario it still wouldn't have prepared me for anything and just been unhealthy for me and the baby.
Blessings! Here he is showing off his abilities :)

What an amazing story! You are so right about hope - people can say all the scary things in the world and sometimes that can steal our hope, or the joy we have over the blessing to begin with.
And now look at your son! He is the perfect son for you because God said he was.
What a great witness. God Bless!
Isn't that the truth! :)Thank you!
